Thankfully the clocks have changed, the mornings lighter, I no longer feel I’m waking and getting up in the middle of the night.
Wakey wakey rise and shine. Honesty, only the rise applies to me. Seldom do I jump out of bed with vigour and or vitally. Often I could easily turn over for another 15 minutes snooze especially during November. My body wants to hibernate prior to the approaching ski season. Once the snow arrives I’m fine, probably because of the brightness. We had our first snowfall of the season today!
Working from home I’ve found I need a routine, it makes me more productive and focused.
Cold water
Splashing cold water over my face wakes me up. Cold water also seems to help reduce my puffy face. Next wash my face with a mild cleanser. At the moment I use Rudolph Care Hydrating Cleansing Milk. I like that it also removes make up. Then the two ts, teeth and tongue.
natural light And Fresh Air
There’s nothing better than (trying) starting my day on the right foot. Natural light is better than switching lights on so I’ve heard. However needs must on those darker mornings, walking around in darkness isn’t the best idea for me definitely not first thing. If in your neck of the woods you have a gorgeous morning sunrise, I do suggest flinging your window open, drawing your curtains or even coffee in your garden! During spring and summer it’s not a challenge at all, we have no curtains so the morning sun light is great.
water
First drink of the day is water. I have a few variations depending on my mood. A dash of hot water mixed with semi sparkling, lemon or lime slices in hot water and a dash of salt. Hot water and salt. A few ways to ramp up my water! Sometimes I down sports drinks (electrolytes) depending on how my body feels. My must is a multi vitamin with extra B’s or Floradix liquid iron with vitamin Bs. Plus an omega-3 DHA. A coffee or two goes without saying.
Tips
I make sure to check the sugar content of my sports drinks. The sugar isn’t necessary if I’m not ski touring!
Supplements can be tricky due to a plethora of brands. Research, use reputable sources.
Sport and exercise should be enjoyed.
Exercise
Depends on the weather, my preference is outdoors. Working from home I’m able to be flexible. Spring and summer more often running and hiking. Winter, skiing sometimes Langlauf (cross country skiing) as we have a track a few minutes from our house. Indoors, tabata, HIIT, strength, Pilates, stretching. My favourite online trainer is growingannanas. Sauna on rest days or nothing. Our bodies need rest too.
Shower And Skin
Any of you doing the healthy cold shower for a few seconds or minutes? I’ve tried but hate it. However, strangely I loved my sea dips in Skagen, Denmark last year.
What’s your morning routine? Are you a breakfast person? Tea or coffee? Do you jump for joy out of bed and dash to the gym?
