I mentioned brain fog and lack of concentration in my fogged up post. Sometimes I feel I’m not quite as sharp and ‘on it’. Testosterone, wasn’t at the forefront of my mind, but I’m learning more of it’s impact. I have an appointment with my specialist at the end of July. I’ll speak with her and share my thoughts with you soon.
We produce testosterone in our ovaries and adrenal glands. Similar to other hormones we have receptors all over our bodies including our brains. During perimenopause and menopause testosterone levels drop. No surprise there! But not as dramatically as oestrogen and progesterone, it’s gradual. Decline can cause tiredness, brain fog, lack of concentration, problems with sleep and low sex drive.
Testosterone levels can be checked via blood tests with your GP or medical professional.
TIP
Testosterone replacement isn’t licensed for women in the UK but can me prescribed privately by doctors and menopause specialists for low libido.
April 2023 – Press release from university of Warwick, UK
“A company born out of ground-breaking research at The University of Warwick has raised almost £3 million to develop a testosterone patch for people suffering from low libido and reduced zest for life due to the menopause”
I love, love science.
I know ladies who have testosterone prescribed privately. They’ve said they’re firing on all cylinders again. Regained their va-va-voom!
Everything isn’t for everyone. Whatever choices we make I’m so happy for those ladies to feel themselves, self assured, confident and have the best quality of life in all aspects. It’s about freedom of choice, knowing what’s available to have the best, feel our best and be our best.
At least I know I won’t turn into a bearded woman. I’ll let you know if I give it a go!
