Menopause musings

Meran – South Tirol, Italy

Menopausal years are unlikely to be a pivotal time for everyone, nevertheless I feel there are moments for thoughtfulness with the knowledge more often than not we’ve lived more years than proceed us, and with another orbit around the sun, however you wish to view it, I wonder if the past 12 months were all you expected. It may well be a welcomed relief to wave adios to ‘time spent’ and run with haste into the new.

Time only moves forward, never to be retrieved.

Interesting during our twenties, thirties and forties much enthusiasm exudes. However speaking with many ladies this can fade during
menopausal years.
With countless experiences under our belts, lessons learned along the way, despite these facts, for whatever reasons confidence, eagerness and optimism can waver, a time when it should be at it’s peak. Sometimes it’s not so easy to
look ahead, putting our best foot forward. We may feel slightly stuck like trudging through a field of mud or the earth moving beneath our feet like quicksand. You maybe multitasking like a pro, keeping all your balls in the air!

Circumstances might be challenging, you could be a carer looking after loved ones, relatives or teenagers. Divorced, single, rekindling your relationship now your kids have flown the nest or in a new relationship. Suffered loss, grieving. Whatever the challenge or challenges we’re not unscathed but changed to some degree, creating a new version of ourselves and sometimes a new vision.

tips
  • Know what works for you
  • Be prepared to pivot
  • Know your non negotiable, there could be a few!
  • Keep your sense of humour
  • Get out in nature. A breath of fresh air does us all good
  • Rest, often overrated but much needed
  • Try something new
Lastly

I only have the body I’m in and fortunately in the main, I’ve treated it reasonably well. Illness can ensue at any given time, so the aim is to ensure I’m giving myself the best possible chance of thriving. Are you?

If in doubt, get checked out.

Embrace the struggles, lean into the hard stuff, trust your instinct, rely on that resilience. You’ll surprise yourself” – Maria Sharapova
